DIY PREP TIPS FOR THE SEASON

HVAC TIPS FOR SPRING/SUMMER

  • Clean or replace your air filters - this helps your system run more efficiently and keeps allergens at bay.

  • Open those vents! Make sure all your vents are unobstructed by furniture or rugs, etc.....

  • Use ceiling fans wisely – Set them to spin counter-clockwise in summer to push cool air down.

  • Clean debris around your A/C system - When leaves and debris build up around your outdoor AC unit, they can obstruct airflow and cause the system to work harder than necessary. Over time, this can reduce the unit's efficiency and potentially lead to overheating or damage to its components.

💡 Energy Saver Tip:

Run appliances like dishwashers and laundry machines early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid peak heat hours (typically 2–6 PM). This keeps your house cooler and reduces strain on your AC — plus, it can save on your energy bill!

PLUMBING TIPS FOR SPRING/SUMMER

  • Inspect your pipes and fixtures - check pipes for leaks and any signs of

         water damage and/or mold.

  • Check outdoor plumbing -  Inspect for any damage, rot, or corrosion

around spigots before you turn them on.

  • Clean debris around your property – cleaning yard debris can prevent

rainfall from pulling the debris into your homes gutters that can lead to

         flooding, water damage and/or leaks.

  • Gnat free trick: Pour a small amount of diluted bleach or vinegar down

sink drains at night to deter gnats. You can also cover drains with a bowl

overnight to trap any that remain.

💡 Energy Saver Tip: Setting your water heater at a maximum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit saves money and provides comfortable water out of your faucets. You may even want to upgrade to a more energy-efficient water heater to prepare your house for the spring.

ELECTRICAL TIPS FOR SPRING/SUMMER

  •  Test outlets and power strips for any signs of overheating or wear.

  • Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure batteries are fresh.

  • Consider upgrading to smart thermostats or timers to optimize your cooling schedule automatically.

  • Smart Power Strips: Consider using smart power strips to reduce energy consumption from devices that are plugged in but not in use, such as TVs or chargers.

💡 Energy Saver Tip:

Use ceiling fans in conjunction with air conditioning, setting them to run counterclockwise in the summer to help circulate cool air. Also, Close drapes and blinds during the hottest part of the day to block direct sunlight and keep your home cooler.
